By the end of a long day (whether you’re in college, working, or just rotting at home) sometimes you just feel gross. I’ve been there time and time again. While a quick rinse in the shower is great, sometimes it just doesn’t get rid of that icky feeling you have. This scenario is exactly where the everything shower originated from- the perfect way to relax, unwind, and get clean.
Once I learned what an everything shower is, I became absolutely obsessed with incorporating it into my weekly routine. After years, I’ve got it down to a science.
So, let’s break down the perfect everything shower routine to feel like the cleanest, most refreshed version of yourself. It’s worth the additional time to practice this form of self-care.
What Is An Everything Shower?
Whether or not you know what an everything shower is, I can guarantee you’ve done one before. An everything shower is exactly what it sounds like – a shower routine that covers every aspect of your body from head to toe. It’s not just about quickly washing your body and hair; it’s a comprehensive self-care ritual that leaves you feeling pampered and rejuvenated.
So many of us (me included) dread doing every single aspect of a shower routine at once because it takes so long. Instead, the everything shower changes this mindset into a physical act of taking care of yourself – it’s way more fun this way.
Why Is it Viral Online?
The name “everything shower” has gained so much popularity online because it’s more than just a quick rinse. In a world where self-care is becoming increasingly important, we all look for inexpensive ways to turn everyday routines into a luxurious experience. This is a trend I absolutely stand by – intentionally taking care of yourself.
The Perfect Everything Shower Routine:
Yes, the everything shower is more than just a shower. It’s creating a start-to-finish routine that centers around bringing yourself joy. Since we are drawing this experience out, just know I don’t do this everyday – just when I feel I need an extra dose of care.
Prep Steps:
The perfect shower starts way before the shower itself. Before stepping in, it’s important to set the mood. Dim the lights, play some music, and light a candle to create a calming atmosphere. This helps you to unwind and fully enjoy your full shower experience.
Next, treat your hair to a nourishing mask. I know they’re collecting dust somewhere in your bathroom. Whether it’s a hair oiling treatment or a deep conditioning mask, pull it out and take the time to apply it.
While you wait for the hair mask to work its magic, grab a dry brush and gently exfoliate your skin. If you’ve never heard of dry brushing, I’m about to change your life. Dry brushing helps to remove dead skin cells and stimulate circulation. It leaves you feeling tingly, smooth, and like you have a new layer of fresh skin.
Lastly, if you’re wearing makeup, now’s the time to remove it. I’ve heard you’re never supposed to enter a steaming space with makeup on. I’m not sure if this is true but I’ve lived my life with this rule and swear by it. Use a gentle makeup remover to dissolve any makeup, dirt, and oil from your face, ensuring that your skin is clean and ready for the next steps of your shower routine.
In The Shower:
As soon as you’re about to jump in the shower, turn it on and throw a shower steamer in. It’s like a small bath bomb made with essential oils – a small tablet that releases aromatic essential oils into the steam, creating a spa-like atmosphere and helping you to relax.
I always start with my hair so the products can sit. If you get one thing from my post it’s this – shampoo your hair twice! The first shampoo removes any dirt and product buildup, while the second shampoo leaves your hair feeling squeaky clean. Follow up with a rich conditioner to hydrate. Throw it in a claw clip and leave it to rinse until the very end.
Second, take the opportunity to wash your face with a gentle cleanser. The steam will have opened your pores by this point, so it can cleanse your skin even deeper.
Now, reach for a luxurious body wash and lather up from neck to toe. I’m really picky on body wash, but it doesn’t have to be expensive, just really rich. If you have dry skin or eczema like me, go for washes with oatmeal or shea butter. If you’re lucky and have non-reactive skin, pick a good scent and just lather it up.
If you like to shave, now’s the time to do it. Apply a shaving oil (yes, shaving oil > everything else) to your skin to help the razor glide smoothly, reducing the risk of irritation and razor burn.
Finishing Steps:
After you’ve rinsed off, step out of the shower, still sopping wet, and throw body oil all over yourself. Yes, your floor will be wet, but your skin will have all that water pushed into it for extra moisture. It’s so worth the puddles afterwards.
For an extra treat, apply a face mask and let it work its magic while you continue with the rest of your post-shower routine. Once you’ve removed the mask, follow up with your regular skincare routine, including moisturizer and any serums or treatments you use.
Finally, don’t forget to take care of your hair. Apply your favorite haircare products, whether it’s a leave-in conditioner, styling cream, or hair oil, to keep your locks looking their best.
And there you have it – the perfect everything shower routine to leave you feeling clean, refreshed, and pampered from head to toe. So why not carve out some time for yourself and indulge in a little self-care? You deserve it.

A little silly but I love putting my hair up in a claw clip in the shower. It makes me feel so much more clean because I can keep the heavy products off of my shoulders and focus on lathering up!! Love this blog – definitely need to start doing face masks post-showers.
